a little 和 a few 有肯定的意思,意思是:有一点
few, a few, little, a little
(1)few, a few是可数的, little, a little是不可数的。
(2)a few, a little含肯定意味,few, little含否定意味。 There is little water in the glass. There is a little water in the glass.
一:
1.few
2.few (= not many; hardly any)含否定意义;a few (= some; several; a small
3. not a few = no few = quite a few = a good few = many。
4. 当 few受 every, last, past, next, some, very等词所修饰时,表示肯定意义,few之前不再有冠词。如:
In the last few minutes, he checked up his paper again.
It took us some few days to repair the machine.
They are very few in number.
There were too few of them.
He goes to see his grandma every few weeks.
Only a few people attended the meeting.
另外,little / a little
Little remains to be done about it.
A little remains to be done.
Please give me a little.
He knows a little of everything.
There is very / but little time left.
Don’t worry; you still have a little time.
2. little含否定意义(反义词:much);a little含肯定意义(反义词:none)。
3. 在非正式英语中,一般很少用little,常用not much, only a little来代替,如:
We haven’t got much money / time.
a little bit和a bit修饰形容词原级或比较级,译为“有点”
Will you please turn down the radio a bit/a little?
She’s a bit/a little afraid of the teacher.(修饰形容词)
The patient feels a bit/a little better to-day.(修饰比较级)
He did his homework a bit/a little care-lessly.(修饰副词)
2. a bit和a little都有some“一些”之意,后接不可数名词。例如:
I’ve got only a little/a bit of money with me today. I’m afraid I can’t help you.
3. for a bit和for a little意思相同,相当于for a while或for a short time,可互换。 例如:
I’m going to sleep for a bit/a little.
Let’s rest for a bit/a little.
1. a little可用作形容词,直接修饰不可数名词;而a bit不能用作形容词,修饰名词时,其后须加上of,构成“a bit of+n.”结构。例如:
Please give me a bit of paper.
He knows a bit of French.
但是,当a little修饰的名词前有this,that以及所有格等限定词时,也要用a little of结构。例如:
I want to drink a little of that wine.
2. a bit可构成“a bit of+不定冠词+名词”,而a little则不能。例如:
I’m afraid your friend is a bit of a thief.
3. a bit和a little的否定式意义正好相反。not a bit=not at all,意为“毫不”;而not a little=very much,意为“非常”,“很”。例如:
He is not a bit tired.
He is not a little tired.
第二部分:(a) few和(a) little的用法区别
(1) (a) few用在复数可数名词之前,(a) little用在不可数名词之前。
He took a few biscuits. (=several)
He took few biscuits(=not many)
He took a little butter. (=some)
He took little butter. (=not much)
(2) few可由hardly any或almost no所取代,含否定的意味。
The composition is well written; it has few (=hardly any) mistakes.
Few (=Almost no) men can solve it.
(3) a few相当于some, several, 含肯定的意味。
He has a few (=some or several) friends.
(4) a little和little之间的差别,就和a few和few的差别一样,只是(a) little须修饰不可数名词,表量或程度。
He grows worse; there is little hope of his recovery.
He is not much better, but there is a little hope.
