Introction to Qing

Qing has beautiful scenery and pleasant climate. A harmonious picture of mountains, sea and city is painted in which one can see the winding coastline, islands and beautiful buildings whose red-roofs are held in the embrace of verdant trees. Many of the European-style buildings used to be home to many famous figures.
Qing is famous in China for its delicious fresh seafood. The Laoshan Scenic Area has an important position in sightseeing because of its beautiful scenery, natural pearls and exquisite crafts. Qing beer (Tsingtao beer), a popular beer brand in the world, is proced in Qing, allowing tourists to easily get the freshest Qing Beer in Qing.

青岛地处太平洋西岸，东经119°30’-121°00’，北纬35°35’-37°09’，滨临黄海，东与朝鲜半岛、日本隔海相望，是山东及沿黄河流域最大的出海口。
Geographical location:
Qing is an Eastern Chinese coastal city located between latitude 35°35’ to 37°09’ and longitude 119°30’ to 121’00. The city faces the Yellow Sea on the east and south. Facing North Korea, South Korea and Japan across the sea.
面积及人口：
行政区现辖七区五市，包括市南、市北、四方、李沧、崂山、城阳、黄岛7个区和胶州、即墨、平度、胶南、莱西5个县级市。总面积10654平方公里，总人口720.68万人，其中市区面积1102平方公里，人口246.77万人。
Population:
There are seven urban districts (Shinan, Shibei, Sifang, Licang, Laoshan, Chnegyang and Huang) and five county-level cities (Jiaozhou, Jimo, Ping, Jiaonan and Laixi) under the juris diction of Qing. The total area of Qing is 10,654 square kilometers which the urban area totals 1,102 square kilometers. The population of Qing totals 7,206,800 while the urban population is 2,467,700.
气候：
属温带季风气候，具有明显的海洋性气候特点，空气湿润，温度适中，年平均气温12.7℃。最热的8月份，平均气温25℃；最冷的一月份，平均气温1.3℃。
Climate:
Qing has a northern temperate zone monsoon climate with the characteristics of a marine climate, such as moist air, abundant rainfall and four distinctive seasons. It is neither hot in summer nor too cold in winter. The annual average temperature is 12.7°C. The hottest month is August with an average temperature of 25℃ and the coldest month is January when the temperature averages 1.3℃.

Topography:
Qing is a hilly city. 40.6% of the total Qing area is highland and lowland areas.

Sea:
The total continental coastal line in Qing is 730.64km and accounts for a quarter of the Shandong province’s total coastal area. The coasts of its Islands add to this area, making the total coast line in Qing 862.64km. It passes through thirty-two bays and encircles sixty-nine islands.

Places of Interest
栈桥：
前海栈桥是青岛的象征，建于1891年，时为简易军用码头，几经重修，向游人开放。现栈桥长440米，名曰“回澜阁”。堤岸是景色如画的栈桥公园，花木掩映，藤绕长廊，可远眺小青岛绿岛葱茏、白塔玉立之美景，是游人观光游憩的好地方。

Zhanqiao Pier:
Zhanqiao Pier, built in 1891, is the symbol of Qing. After several restorations, from being a simple military harbor, it is now open to tourists. The pier is 440 meters long. There is an octagonal pagoda of distinctive Chinese style, called “ Huilan Pagoda”, at the end of the pier. From the top, tourists can fully view the Maganificent Sea. Along the shore is the beautiful Pier Park, which is a pleasant and quiet place for tourists to rest or enjoy the scenery of Little Qing Island and its white tower.

滨海步行道：
建设滨海步行道是迎办2008年奥运会的重点项目之一。这一工程为中外游客提供了一条亲近大海、拥抱海洋的靓丽风景线。滨海步行道西起团岛，东至石老人旅游度假区，全长越40公里。滨海步行道横穿青岛市的新、老市区和高科技工业园，途经沿海岸线的瞿塘峡路、太平路、南海路、汇泉路、山海关路、黄海路、太平角一路和东海路等路段，一路行来，如诗如画的海滨风景，美不盛收。
Beautiful Seashore Boardwalk
The construction of a seashore boardwalk is one of the key project to be completed before the 2008 Olympic Games. The boardwalk is a beautiful scenery route along the coast. Starting from Tuan in the west, the 40-km-long sidewalk stretches to the ShiLaoRen (Old Stone Man) Holiday Resort in the east. Traversing the downtown of Qing and the High Tech Instrial Park, the boardwalk passes many roads along the coast, including Qutangxia Rd., Taiping Rd., Nanhai Rd.,Huiquan Rd., Shanhaiguan Rd., Huanghai Rd., Taipingjiaoyi Rd., and Donghai Rd. People can enjoy extremely beautiful coastal scenery along the boardwalk.
小青岛：
因形似古琴，亦称琴岛。岛上洁白的灯塔亭亭玉立，为本世纪初德国人建造。小岛山岩耸秀，林木婆娑。夜幕低垂时，可欣赏“琴屿飘灯”之胜景。

Little Qing Island
Whose shape is like an ancient violin is also called “violent Isle”. Germany built the white lighthouse on the isle at the beginning of this century. Its light reflected on the sea makes quite a spectacle at night, so much so that it has become known as “floating light of Isle”.

Catholic Church
Located on Zhejiang Road, the Catholic Church, originally named St.Michael’s, was built by the Germans in 1934. The 60-meter-high building, covering 2470sq.m, is one of China famous Catholic Churches.

Lutheran Church
Built in 1910 in the style of a German castle, the building features a bell tower and an auditorium.

迎宾馆：
典型的德国古堡式建筑，居我国单体别墅前列。因此处为德国驻青总督官邸，俗称“提督楼”。1934年定名为“迎宾馆”，成为接待国内外军政要员的重要馆舍。

Guest House:
Architecturally reminiscent of a classic German castle. The delicate shape, splendid ornaments, graceful lines and bold colors make The Guest House one of the best examples of nonnumeric villas in China. Originally, it was the official residence of the German governor in Qing. In 1934, it was formally renamed “Guest House”, and has become important as a retreat to receive VIPs in military affairs and politics.

八大关：
位于汇泉角和太平角之间，濒临波光涟漪的太平湾。200余幢异国风格的别墅掩映于花木丛中。被称为“万国建筑博物馆”。其间10条马路始建于1931年，路栽雪松、紫薇、碧桃各不相同。其中8条马路以中国著名关隘命名。故名“八大关”。

Badaguan (Eight Great Passes)
Lying between Huiquan Cape and Taiping Cape, Badaguan faces the rippling Taiping Bay. In the Badaguan area, more than 200 villas of exotic style are scattered among the lush old-growth flora. There are so many villas that the scenic spot is considered a World Architecture Museum. Criss-crossing the scenic area are ten roads built in 1931 and lined with many varieties of trees including peaches, crabapples, pine trees and ginkgo. Eight of the roads are named after the eight great passes of the Great Wall, hence the name Badaguan.

花石楼：
原为德国提督渔猎、休息处，俗称“歇脚楼”。此建筑由花石构成，小巧美观，既有罗马建筑风格，又有哥特式建筑特色。

Huashi Building:
It was originally the place for the German governor to fish, hunt or rest, so it is popularly called “Building for Rest”. Small and exquisite, the building combines the styles of Roman and Gothic architecture.

May 4th Square:
This square is named to honor the May 4th Movement which took place in 1919. Consisting of two squares and a park, the area is decorated with statues and fountains and surrounded by pine trees, meadows, and flowers. It has become the symbol of modern Qing.

音乐广场：
中心建有软体雕塑“音乐之帆”，高20米，帆下设仿真钢琴，供游人弹奏娱乐。观海平台设计为一本翻开的乐谱，谱有数首世界名曲主旋律，音符下的感应器可随游人的踩踏播放不同的乐曲。

Music Square:
In the center is a 20-meter high statue named “Sail of Music", under which a piano-shape instrument is set up for tourists to play. The platform, overlooking the sea, is designed as an open music score, in which world famous melodies are stored. Tourists can enjoy different music by stepping on it.

崂山
崂山是国家级风景名胜区，是国家首批AAA*旅游区。位于青岛市区东部，总面积446平方公里。崂山自古被称誉为神窟仙宅，灵异之府，是道教传播发祥地之一，盛时有九宫八观七十二庵之说。崂山无严寒， 夏无酷暑，山海相连，风景如画，是全国著名的旅游和度假休闲胜地。

Laoshan Scenic Area
The Laoshan Scenic Area was one of China’s first major scenic resorts to receive the approval of the State Council. It holds an important position in Qing’s tourism instry. The acceleration of its natural landscape development and improved access to its cultural facilities is an important component of the city’s Olympic endeavors. Major tourist spots include the Laoshan Kangcheng Academy, the Jufeng Scenic Area and Nine Waters& Eighteen Pools.
