The Temple of Heaven is in the south part of Beijing. It is the place the emperors in ancient China worship the God of Heaven, and pray Him to offer fair weathers to the farmers, so that they could have harvests. The Temple of Heaven is different from other royal buildings in that the major building is in a round shape, representing the heaven according to the old Chinese view about the heaven and the earth -- round heaven and square earth. Unlike the yellow tiles in the Forbidden City, the color of tiles in the Temple of Heaven is blue, a symbol of the blue sky. The blue color seems to be a path connecting the human beings with the Spirit in the Heaven. In this way, the emperor, representing his subjects, talks with the God of Heaven for the benefit of his people. In a word, the Temple of Heaven is a very fantastic place to go and visit. Wherever you come from, I would suggest you go to see the Temple of Heaven.
The LaoShe Teahouse is another place boasting the Beijing characteristics. It got its name as Lao She Teahouse, because Lao She, the famous playwright in modern China, had written his well-known play called "Teahouse", which was very popular, thus the Lao She Teahouse is named after the play. In this teahouse, people can experience the life in Beijing in a relaxed way, by drinking a cup of green tea.
