虽然有此解释但一般都是不及物动词用法，常见及物用法是驾驶，后面宾语是船或飞行器，也不能跟地点。比如He sailed a little boat around the world.如果跟sky只能用不及物动词加介词的用法，比如sail across the sky.
The boat sailed from the port in the morning.
We got in the lift and sailed to the top of the floor.但是到某个地点习惯用sail for
The ship is expected to sail for Boston.总之，sail你提出的意思还是不及物动词用法
