The famous verses "From my window seeing the snow-crowned western hills ,Beyond the door lying the east-bound ships at anchor" are written by the saint of poet TU FU who had lived in TUFU Cottage at the suburb of Chengdu for four years,which is a live picture of the Chengdu city located at the upstream of Yangtze River as an economic and cultural center in southwest area with countless dealers and carriages. With so many historical characters and heroes passed by,the history has been moving on till present, Chengdu has become the major central city in china's west area, the scientific trading financial center and the hub of traffic communication.
now there are nine districts ,four cityss and six countys under its jurisdiction, among them has two national open-economic zones. The total size of Chengdu is 12390 square kilometers, the population at the end of 2002 is 10.2848 million and the GDP is 166.32 billion yuan which increases 13.1% compared with last year.
