1）HCI类硕士项目非常少，博士项目更是稀少
计算机系、信息学院等个别专业有博士项目，有教授带学生做相关方向的科研。也就是说，学位不叫PhD in HCI，而是作为博士生的毕业论文方向。只有极个别学校，比如CMU、Gatech，有专门的HCI博士，因为太珍稀，录取难度是非常大的。
通常大家说的到美国读HCI专业，都是自费读硕士。那什么样的学校有专门的HCI学位？
首先，排名很低的学校，没有这个专业，因为HCI需要多个领域的知识，设计、心理学、计算机等各个方向，都得有教授上课才可以，很多学校没有这样全面的师资力量，或者尽管有这些专业，但是教授们的科研兴趣没法交叉在一起。
其次，好学校里有HCI方向的，依然很少。Stanford和MIT Media Lab是大牛，其他的学校，主要就是CMU、GaTech、UW、U Mich、IUB、UMD等比较有名了。而且有些学校并没有专门的HCI学位，比如Stanford、Cornell，只是作为CS or IS专业的一个方向（track）开设而已，这样的项目，申请难度自然要按照所在院系来，比如申请stanford CS系的硕士录取，背景如果不是极其彪悍，那就是去给牛人做陪衬的。 另外，不同学校的课程设置侧重点不同，差别很大。
Warald者在这里不打算列举开设HCI专业或者方向的学校，感兴趣的话，得自己去查，一亩三分地里有很多信息。
总的来说，HCI申请，无论背景强弱，大家都不得不申请数目很少的那批学校，就算想降低学校档次申请，或者想去名气更大的学校，也没有别的选择。
2）HCI方向美国求职特点和就业前景
HCI类方向的职位，有以下两个特点
职位少，就业机会不多
公司比较喜欢有经验的人，尤其是设计类的职位，新人入门难，这也意味着经验越丰富就越吃香。
随着apple的成功，越来越多的公司都觉得有必要招人进来提高产品的user experience。其实User Interface Design这类工作，作为小众方向，在软件开发过程中，一直都有人做的，并不新奇。公司新招人进来，是否能人尽其才加以利用，是个问题，在有些公司里，做UX Design的人，比较边缘化。
最近几年是美国就业高峰期，IT行业一般不裁员，但是如果将来经济形势不好，做HCI的人可能会被首先裁掉。其实不光是做HCI的，在IT行业里，做front-end的职位，包括做开发的软件工程师，很多时候都会被“优先”干掉 - 当然，这里比较的是技术类工作，一般最先被裁掉的是非技术工种，比如marketing, sales。
如果有可能，找个很注重HCI的公司，或者所在部门的核心业务就是这方面的，工作会更稳定一些。
3）HCI非常看重作品集Portfolio
首先，无论是申请，还是求职，都需要作出很出色的作品集来展示自己的才能。
其次，口语表达能力、交流能力也非常关键，这类工作，并非埋头写代码，而是要跟别人讨论交流甚至察言观色来合作，如果闷葫芦，或者谈话交流有障碍，最好下大功夫提高一下。
至于学HCI是否要编程这个问题??答案是yes。不需要CS那么强的编程功底，将来的工作也不是专职软件开发，但是如果彻底不会计算机编程，连网站都不会做，那作为新人，找工作的难度会陡然加大，其他方面的背景（比如艺术设计），那得相当彪悍才有机会。
4）HCI资源信息
一亩三分地里里有很多学HCI的同学来分享申请经验、介绍学校项目，也有同学在美国找到了工作，回地里分享求职经验。一句话：从申请到就业，全都有。
在地里用免米搜索“HCI"或者"UX Design"这些关键字，可以查到各种申请信息。比如spell同学读书期间，分享的UW HCDE,MSIM12fall申请录取情况和UW-Seattle 2012,2013录取情况及就业RA情况。
关于求职经验，最好的帖子是：《报个Amazon Lab126的UX Designer的offer和用户体验设计师求职的一点总结》。这个帖子对UX求职的关键因素都分析的很到位。招工求职版里，还有其他人的面经。
最后，HCI作为一个小众方向，尽管工作机会不如CS码农多，但是就业前景胜过了绝大多数理工科的专业。对这个方向有热情、*的同学，欢迎来一亩三分地里跟大家交流申请和就业信息。
