Sir Edmund Hillary was the first to scale the 8850m peak of Mt Everest way back in 29 May 1953. Later, he led expeditions to the South Pole and also helped the Sherpas of Nepal not forgetting his Himalayas Trust which has so far built social amenities in the region. In 2003, he was given the Nepalese citizen adding on to his knighthood and the Order of the Garter.Mount Everest is the world's highest mountain above sea level at 8,848 metres (29,029 ft). It is located in the Himalayas on the Nepal, China (Tibet) border. The first man to conquer Mt Everest was Edmund Percival Hillary and his companion, Tensing Norgay On May 29th 1953.Sir Edmund Hillary was the first climber to scale the world's highest peak, Mount Everest. He died in 2008 at the age of 88.
