Grapes of Wrath " was published in 1939. AS a Nobel Prize winner in literature , John Steinbeck (1902-1968 ) , is a popular " Bible " influening contemporary American novel. " Grapes of Wrath " was John Steinbeck's masterpiece who was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 1940, and by virtue of this work, in 1962 Steinbeck received the Nobel literature prize . On the American literature, "Grapes of Wrath" makes the tremendous contribution American culture as a milestone. The novel shows deepest sympathy, by describing the bankruptcy of the central and western dilapidated truck farmers, who leave their homes and live rough then immigrate westward, and search for the mind state among them. "Canaan", as a paradise and heaven for the destination as described in the novel, is a way out of the miserable scene for the farmers. Whether the figures or chapter depicted in the structure of language or style , everywhere there is a "Bible" of the traces of the impact. The novel marks the peak of American culture as a milestone, in terms of artistic thought and literature.
1 . Biblical parallels in the structure
(1).A Journey of Man’s Nothing: the Failure of the American Dream
Like "Old Testament" the "Exos" story, the novel is just a different chapter with methods of narrative chapter insertion phase, narrative events from a chapter of a huge scroll, and chapters insertiion in a wider range of color to provide vivid background foil for the whole story. These two aspects complement each other, promoting the story to develop in depth. Grapes of Wrath is a journey as described. In fact, in the United States culture, the concept of travel is very important. Jode family was forced to immigrate to California from Ohio, an ironic example of plication of these early Americans of movement. The book comprises 30 chapters in 3 major components: drought, migration and California. This reminds us of "Exos", which is probably the idea of the outline of the majority of sub-3: In Egypt, out of Egypt and settlement in Canaan. Israelis slavery in Egypt by Pharaoh, lived a life as oxen and horses. Jode encountered similar predicament in Ohio. Israelis, led by the Prophet Moses to leave Egypt, the way to the Red Sea, with a heart full of longing towards the Promised Land of Canaan, which is thousands of miles away. Jode crossed the desert and settled to rest beside the river, finally went toward the California where are full of similar stories. According to the Bible, the Israelis entered the Canaan years ago with the help of local residents and tribal resistance, to which Jode in California have been hostile .
