在看这本书的时候，起初我的脑子是一片混乱的，感觉就像在看一份电子产品说明书，篇幅长、计算机专业术语过多，这让我想到初学计算机时接触的DOS系统，简直成为学生时代的我的一场恶梦。世界上使用电脑的人越来越多，但并不表示所有的人都明白其中的道理，就像当计算机操作系统是DOS时代时，计算机的使用率远远低于WINDOS问世后的普及率。而看此书，有点像在DOS时代使用计算机。但是，托马斯弗里德曼不愧是读者身份，他用几近煽情的手法、生动的事例和大胆的想象来解读经济全球化，让我不得不被这汹涌而来的经济全球化所镇住，同时也深感自己知识的匮乏。
书中的观点认为，我们正处在全球化3.0版，将我们带入这个新时期的动力既有地缘*的因素，也有技术方面的进步以及在此基础之上的生产创新模式。正如今天的印度之所以能在公平竞技场上大揽知识含量高，收入回报丰厚的IT行业和电话服务业外包，是因为在世界还没有完全被铲平的时候，他们培养了大批的理工精英，他们懂得开发人的脑力。
《世界是平的》告诉我们，竞争的平台已经被推平了。试看今日的世界，没有哪个国家可以免受竞争所带来的冲击，可以不享受因为合作所带来的极大丰厚的回报。企业与企业之间，人与人之间充满了竞争与合作，因为竞争与合作带来了整个世界的变化，促进了人类文明的发展和传播。

在我们的工作和事业中同样不可缺少竞争与合作的因子，我们每天从事这简单而又繁重的工作，在这个看似简单平凡的工作中同样蕴含着竞争，从各人的工作态度到责任心，从个人的学习能力到工作技能无不打上竞争的烙印，社会是一个优胜劣汰的竞争场所，任何时候谁能从竞争中脱颖而出，谁就能享受胜利者的喜悦。
我是读不太懂这本书的，但还是收获到了紧迫感，做为一个初入社会的年轻人，我只有不断地学习吸收新知识，不断地巩固已学到的知识并运用到实践中，努力工作才能在平坦的世界中有自己的立足之地。正如作者在书中所言“平坦的世界的精神内涵是每一个劳动者将逐渐对自己的铁饭碗、风险和经济安全负责，而*和企业只是帮助人们形成这种能力。”
变平的世界让每个个体都站在同一水平线上，任何企业、组织甚至个人都将参与到全球整合的业务环境中。让我们跟着作者一道去探讨这个变平的世界，这是由必然王国进入自由王国认识领域的一把钥匙。
