For this story, I think the writer wants to tell us that virtue is the best gift to anyone. Everybody may have to face troubles, pains, and hopelessness. If you are facing them, please do not despair. Hopeness is the power for our living. And if you find anyone is facing hopelessness, please kindly show him/her a hand. Hopeness and love may encourage people, or even to rescue them. So the love can be transferred. And if society is filled of the light of love, then it's heaven.

The Film "The Last Leaf" is based on the short story by O. Henry. A young girl decides that she will die when the last leaf drops from a dying vine outside her window, as lingering pneumonia slowly takes her will to live. Her neighbor, Art Carney, is an elderly artist frustrated by his inability to paint what is in his heart. In an attempt to save the young girl, he creates the masterpiece he has been struggling to paint. A beautifully shot and moving story. This excellent short film is my favorite adaptation of O. Henry's short story. Art Carney does a great job, although his character is French in this version, as opposed to the German character in the book. Overall the film is a wonderful adaption of the film and just like the book,it truly touched the heart of its audience.
