2007年3月27日，在国际社会工作者联合会（IFSW）成立50周年之际，该组织*大卫·琼斯博士倡导发起 “ 第一个世界社会工作日 ”（the First World Social Work Day ）, 并与国际社会工作学校联盟(IASSW)一起举办了庆祝活动。国际社工联（IFSW）确定从2007年开始每年春季选择一天为“世界社会工作日 ”。2008年是第二个“世界社会工作日”，国际社会工作者联盟把这个纪念日确定在4月15日，并与国际社会工作学校联盟联合举办纪念活动。国际社工联盟在2008年向联合国正式申报4月15日为“国际社工日”。在未获得批准之前按照国际社会工作者联盟2008年8月一年一度的IFSW全体会议决定，“世界社工日”定为每年三月份的第三个星期二。

世界社会工作日 ，也称国际社会工作日，简称世界社工日，国际社工日。国际社工联（IFSW）确定从2007年开始每年春季选择一天为“世界社会工作日 ”。第一个“世界社会工作日”是由国际社会工作者联盟（IFSW）组织*大卫·琼斯博士倡导发起的。其目的是为社区内弱势人群解决问题，为有需要的人士贡献自己的爱心、知识和技巧。

Dear Colleagues,
The International Federation of Social Workers will celebrate the firs
t World Social Work Day on March 27. The main theme
is "Social Work: Making a World of Difference", which symbolizes the efforts s
ocial workers put to help people make
positive changes in their lives, the commitment and capacity of social workers
in serving the most distressed and vulnerable people
in our communities, the professional mission of social workers to make people
voice heard, to improve social policies, to promote
human rights and social justice. The IFSW calls for social workers from every
part of the world to celebrate the Day and it also aims
to get United Nations recognition for the Day.
The Hong Kong Social Workers Association supports the launching of a "
World Social Work Day" and plans to organize a
"Social Work Day" in Hong Kong later this year. A social work conference is pl
anned so that social workers from different services
and settings might meet and exchange, so as to promote professional developmen
t and cohesion. We also plan to organize exhibition
and lectures in order to raise the profile and promote a positive image of soc
ial work profession. On March 27, the Association will
organize a gathering for its Board and committees members so as to commemorate
the "World Social Work Day" and to begin the
organization of the local "Social Work Day".
